Editorial policy
What a Shopbam page is, where its facts come from, who made the videos, how we fix mistakes and how the site is paid for. Last updated 10 October 2026.
What a review on this site is
A Shopbam review is desk research, not a product test. We do not buy, borrow or use the products we write about, and no page here claims otherwise. Each review gathers three independent sources that did examine the product — typically a published editorial test, a community of owners or a trade specialist, and buyer ratings with their sample size — and sets out what each one found, where they agree and where they contradict each other. The page then says plainly what none of them checked.
If you want a hands-on verdict, the editorial source on each page is the place to go; we link it. What we add is the comparison, the labelling of evidence, the running-cost sums and the "still sold?" check that single reviews rarely do.
How facts are chosen
- Manufacturer first. Specifications come from the maker's own UK page where it publishes one, then from retailers. Where they disagree, every figure is printed with who published it.
- Sample sizes or nothing. A star rating without a review count is not used as evidence.
- Dated prices. Every price carries the day it was checked. Prices move; the date tells you how stale the number may be.
- Marketplace sellers. B&Q, Argos, Currys, Very and others host third-party sellers on their own websites. Where we could not read the "sold by" line, the page says "listed on X's website" rather than "sold by X", and tells you to check the seller in the buy box.
- Running costs are our own sums at the Ofgem price cap in force when the page was written, and are labelled as ours.
- Our own money is not involved. We hold no stock, take no samples and run no affiliate links on review pages.
The videos
Each review embeds three YouTube videos about the product. They are made by independent YouTube reviewers and owners, not by Shopbam, and the people in them have no connection to this site. We choose them because they show the product in use, which text cannot. Where a video is a manufacturer's or retailer's promotion, or shows an older or sibling model, the note under it says so. We verify each video through search listings rather than by opening it, which is why the channel name is sometimes not given; nothing from YouTube loads on the page until you press play.
What we could not check
Every review, guide and retail-park page ends with a list of the things we could not verify: a paywalled test score, a shop page that would not load, a warranty term two sources disagree on. Those lists are not padding. If a fact matters to your purchase and it is on that list, treat it as unknown and check it yourself before you buy.
Corrections
If a figure is wrong, a product has been discontinued, or you own the thing and your experience contradicts the page, tell us. We would rather be corrected than be wrong. Corrections are made on the page itself and the "updated" date changes; where a product has gone off sale, a box at the top of the page says so and names the replacement.
How Shopbam makes money
Shopbam shows advertising supplied by Google AdSense. The adverts are chosen by Google, not by us, and no advertiser sees a page before it is published or has any say in what it says. We do not accept payment for reviews, do not run sponsored pages and do not take free products. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.
Who writes it
Shopbam is published as a title rather than under individual bylines. The research method above, the sources named on every page and the corrections policy are what we ask you to judge it by.
