Brabantia Bo Pedal Bin 2 x 30L Review: A £126–£210 Bin With a 10-Year Guarantee

The Bo Pedal is the bin people buy once. It splits 60 litres into two 30-litre buckets so you can keep rubbish and recycling apart, and Brabantia backs it for ten years. Before you spend up to £210, check three things: whether the open lid will hit your worktop, what the code O bags cost a year, and which finish actually hides fingerprints.

Where the reviews line up

We could not find a UK editorial test of the pedal version, so the evidence comes from three places. Mumsnet's home editor lived with its sibling, the Bo Hi Touch 2 x 30L, for three months. A Mumsnet Talk thread of 32 replies covers Brabantia owners over many years. And there are buyer ratings at Brabantia UK and Coolblue: 4.7/5 from 284 on the maker's own page and 9.2/10 from 180 at the Belgian retailer, 464 in all. The three agree more than they disagree.

Three things come up everywhere. It lasts. Mumsnet owners talk about bins that are still like new after years, and one has used Brabantia for more than 25 years. The two buckets make recycling easy: one lid, two removable 30-litre buckets, and a stay-open position for big clear-outs. Brabantia stands behind it. One owner's lid catch broke after twelve years. A new lid would have cost £60, and Brabantia replaced it free.

Two honest catches. The bags cost more than supermarket ones. Brabantia's code O PerfectFit bags work out at about 27p each, against about 14p for a Tesco 30-litre drawstring liner. Mumsnet's tester says cheaper bags fit fine, but nobody has checked a supermarket bag in this exact bin. Only one finish is fingerprint-proof. That is the Matt Steel Fingerprint Proof. Coolblue buyers of the white say it picks up greasy marks and dents more easily.

Check your worktop before you order. Coolblue lists the bin at 65.6 cm closed and 91.7 cm with the lid open. Kitchen worktops are commonly around 90 cm to the top surface, which leaves less than that underneath (our rule of thumb, not a sourced figure). So an open lid at 91.7 cm will catch the underside of an overhang. Stand the bin clear of the worktop edge, or in a gap, and measure first.

The three reviews this summary is built from

Before the review: pedal or touch?

Brabantia sells the Bo 2 x 30L three ways: as this Pedal Bin, as a Touch Bin at the same height, and as the Touch Bin Hi on legs (81.5 cm). They share the two-bucket layout and the code O bags, but the lid works differently. The white Touch Bin 2 x 30L page we checked said it was out of stock. The Pedal Bin is in stock at Brabantia UK, so this page reviews the pedal version. Where a source tested a Touch model, we say so.

Mumsnet

Editorial test Natasha Gregson, Mumsnet home editor, three months in a Hertfordshire home, last updated 1 December 2025 · mumsnet.com · tested the Bo Hi Touch 2 x 30L, not the pedal

This is the only proper hands-on test we found of a Bo 2 x 30L, but it is the sibling model. The Bo Hi Touch has legs and a push-to-open lid, and stands 81.5 cm tall at £179. Everything about the buckets, the bags and the build carries over to the pedal bin. What it says about the lid does not.

Most of what she found is positive. The lid "opens with minimal effort and closes quietly, containing odours effectively". The two buckets make sorting waste simple. The matt finish "doesn't attract fingerprints — a common annoyance I've had with metallic bins in the past". Two findings matter more for a pedal buyer. First, she found that "supermarket bin bags fit well", so you are not stuck paying for code O bags. Second, her main complaint is the price: it is "undeniably expensive — especially for a non-sensor-operated bin". Mumsnet's wider best kitchen bins round-up includes the same model and says the same about bags: "Brabantia's PerfectFit bin bags can be expensive, although you can source cheaper alternatives."

Mumsnet Talk

Community "Can anyone recommend a good kitchen bin?", 32 replies, May 2023 to May 2024, nine Brabantia mentions · mumsnet.com · owners, many years in

A forum thread is not a test, but it is where long-term owners turn up, and long-term use is the whole case for a £150 bin. The model these posters mention most is the Bo Touch Bin Hi 2 x 30L, not the pedal. The points they make are about the brand and the bucket design, so they apply here too.

One owner says they have "never spent so much money on a bin" but calls them "brilliant — right down to the holes in the inner bin that make pulling a full bin bag out a breeze". Those holes stop a vacuum forming under the bag. Another says it is easy to clean the inside of the lid and the catch, which they never managed with cheaper bins. Others report bins "still as good as new" after years, and one has used Brabantia for more than 25 years. The most useful post is the one complaint: a lid catch broke after twelve years, a new lid would have cost £60, and Brabantia replaced it free. That one story shows the guarantee working better than anything in the small print.

Brabantia UK and Coolblue

Verified buyers 4.7/5 from 284 reviews on Brabantia UK (white page; the score appears to cover all colours); 9.2/10 from 180 reviews at Coolblue Belgium; both checked 6 October 2026 · brabantia.com · coolblue.be

Read these for what they are. The 284 reviews sit on the maker's own shop page, where you would expect a good score. The 180 come from a Belgian retailer, not a British one. We could not get a sample-sized rating from a UK retailer: the ones we reached showed a price but no reviews. Taken together they add up to 464 ratings, and both are high.

Coolblue's summary is the more useful of the two because it includes the complaints. Buyers praise the "solid" build and say it is "easy to use". But the white finish "gets greasy spots faster", because only the Matt Steel version has the fingerprint-proof coating, and the steel body is "more prone to dents and scratches". Coolblue is also the only source we found that gives the height with the lid open: 91.7 cm. It estimates the bags at about €0.33 each, which is close to Brabantia's UK price of £10.95 for 40.

Strengths and weak points

What holds up

  • Two removable 30-litre buckets under one lid, so rubbish and recycling stay separate in one footprint.
  • A 10-year guarantee, spare parts for up to 20 years, and a case where Brabantia replaced a 12-year-old lid free.
  • The pedal and soft-close lid mean no hands, no slam, and a stay-open position for big clear-outs.
  • A flat back and non-slip base, so it sits flush against a wall or in a corner.
  • Holes in the inner buckets make a full bag easy to pull out.
  • Price: the RRP is £210, but £126–£150 was easy to find on 6 October 2026.

What people complain about

  • Code O bags at about 27p each, against about 14p for a supermarket 30-litre liner.
  • At 91.7 cm (Coolblue's figure) the open lid will not clear the underside of a typical worktop overhang.
  • Only the Matt Steel Fingerprint Proof finish resists marks. Buyers of the white report greasy spots.
  • The steel body dents and scratches, according to Coolblue buyers.
  • Expensive for a bin with no sensor. Mumsnet's tester makes that point about the touch version.
  • Publishers disagree on its size, weight and recycled content.

Who it actually suits

Buy it if your council has you separating recycling and you want both streams in one bin by the back door or in a gap between units. It suits you if you would rather pay once for something that lasts and comes with a 10-year guarantee. Wait for a price near £126–£150 rather than paying the £210 RRP. If you have a steel kitchen or small children, the Matt Steel Fingerprint Proof finish is the one to get.

Look elsewhere if the only space for it is tucked under a worktop overhang, because the lid needs about 92 cm of height to open. Look elsewhere too if you want a bin that opens on a sensor or with a knee, or if 60 litres is more than you need: a single 30-litre bin costs much less. If the bags put you off, Mumsnet's tester says supermarket bags fit, so test a cheap pack before you buy a year of PerfectFit.

Sorting out the kitchen? We have also reviewed the Russell Hobbs RHM2076B microwave and the Dualit Lite toaster. IKEA's KIVIK sofa is another product that comes with a 10-year guarantee.

What we could not check

  • The videos. We confirmed all three through search listings showing the watch URL and title. We could not open them from here, and none of the listings named the channel.
  • An editorial test of the pedal version. We found none. The only hands-on test, Mumsnet's, is of the Bo Hi Touch 2 x 30L.
  • Open-lid height from Brabantia, and your worktop. The 91.7 cm figure is Coolblue's alone, and the 90 cm worktop height is our rule of thumb, not a sourced standard. Measure the space under your worktop overhang before you order.
  • Registration for the guarantee. Brabantia's conditions ask for proof of purchase (date, shop, product name), domestic use, a new product and no third-party repairs. We found no registration requirement, but we could not confirm that none exists. Keep the receipt.
  • Whether the guarantee covers the plastic buckets and the soft-close damper. Brabantia's help pages do not say which parts are covered.
  • Supermarket bags in this bin. Mumsnet's tester says they fit, but in the touch version. The Tesco 30-litre liner we priced at 14p is rated 1.2/5 from 20 Tesco reviews.
  • A UK retailer rating with a sample size. Robert Dyas and Charlies showed a price but no reviews. The two ratings we use come from the maker's own page and a Belgian retailer.
  • Size, weight and recycled content. Brabantia, Coolblue and Charlies publish different figures (65.2 vs 65.6 cm high, 7.3 vs 7.5 kg, 35% vs 46% recycled). We print them all.
  • Noise and pedal wear. No source measured how loud the lid is or how long the pedal lasts.

Sources last checked 6 October 2026. Bin and bag prices change often, so check the listing in front of you before you order.
