Silverburn: Shops, Parking, Directions and Opening Times

Glasgow’s southside centre off the M77, open since 2007, and having its best year — 16.5 million visits in 2025, up 10%, after going from 20% vacancy to near-full occupancy in three years. Free parking all day, and the accessibility provision is genuinely good.

Silverburn opened on 25 October 2007 — the retail phase, with restaurants following in early 2008 — as a £350m development on the site of the old Pollok Centre. It was described at the time as the largest purpose-built regional development in Scotland, and it is still the dominant centre for Glasgow’s southside.

It is having a very good run. 16.5 million visits in 2025, up 10% on the year and a record, against 15.2 million in 2024. Vacancy has gone from around 20% to near-full occupancy in three years. Parking is free all day, every day, and — unusually — the accessibility provision is properly documented rather than something you have to ring up and ask about.

Welcoming more than 16 million visits in a single year is a huge achievement and really reflects the role Silverburn plays in the lives of people across Glasgow and beyond.

Read as plain text from the operator’s own pages on 1 September 2026. Note the wording: the operator says “public holiday”, not “bank holiday”, which is correct for Scotland — but it does not publish which dates those are, and Scottish public holidays differ from England’s. Christmas and New Year hours are not published either. Restaurants and leisure venues run later than the mall.

Getting there

By car

Silverburn is at junction 2 of the M77, on Barrhead Road in Pollok. The operator’s own satnav postcode is G53 6EW — worth using that one, because its parking page gives G53 6AG and third-party listings give G53 6QR.

Parking is free all day, every day, across a multi-storey and the Red, Yellow and Green surface areas. The height limit is 2.2m, which is the number to know if you are in a van or have a roof box. There are over 100 free accessible spaces, and a £100 fine for misusing a parent or disabled bay. The Tesco car park is separate and has a two-hour limit — park there for the centre and you may regret it.

By train

Priesthill & Darnley is the nearest station, about a 20-minute walk.

By bus

First services 3, X8 and 10, McGill’s 3, 6, 49 and 374, and SPT 153. There is a taxi rank at the Tesco entrance. Coaches are by prior arrangement rather than turn-up-and-park.

Accessibility

This is the part Silverburn does better than most. Free Shopmobility, 10am to 6pm daily, from the ground floor of the multi-storey. Two Changing Places toilets — one opposite JD Sports, one in the Winter Garden. Step-free throughout, and the accessible parking is both plentiful and free.

The shops

Around 100 units plus a substantial food and leisure offer, with a Tesco Extra alongside. The story of the last three years is occupancy: the centre has gone from roughly 20% vacancy to near-full, which is why footfall is at a record.

We have deliberately kept this section short. The operator does not publish a current store or restaurant count, several of the recent-arrival stories we found were headlines behind paywalls or robots-blocked local papers, and we would rather leave a gap than pad it with a shop list we could not verify. The caveat box below says exactly which names those were.

Around the centre

Silverburn sits in Pollok, with Pollok Country Park nearby — though we could not confirm any formal link or route between the two, so treat that as geography rather than a facility.

Useful to know

• 2.2m height limit in the multi-storey. The most useful single number on this page if you drive anything tall.
• The Tesco car park is not the centre car park. It has a two-hour limit; the centre’s own parking has none and is free all day.
• Accessibility is a genuine strength. Free Shopmobility 10am–6pm daily, two Changing Places toilets, over 100 free accessible bays, step-free throughout.
• Go to shopsilverburn.com. The obvious silverburn.com redirects to a domain-for-sale page and has nothing to do with the centre.
• “Public holiday” means Scottish public holidays, which are not the same dates as English bank holidays, and the operator does not list them. Check before travelling on one.

How it got here

Silverburn was built on the site of the old Pollok Centre — confirmed by the architect BDP’s own project description — as a £350m regeneration scheme, with Bovis Lend Lease as contractor and Retail Property Holdings as developer. The retail phase opened on 25 October 2007 and the restaurants followed in early 2008.

Ownership went from a Hammerson and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board 50:50 joint venture to Henderson Park, with Eurofund Group as operating partner, on 15 March 2022 for £140m.

There the story becomes genuinely unresolved, and we are going to leave it that way. Landsec went under offer at over £200m in January 2026. In early March 2026 Estates Gazette ran a story headlined to the effect that Landsec had halted the purchase. That article is paywalled and we could not read it. So: Landsec does not own Silverburn as far as anything we could verify goes, and the outcome of that approach is not something we are going to guess at.
